Tight People

You know what really gets up my nerves is tight, rich people. Now don’t get me wrong I know a lot of wealthy people, but they aren’t like some of the people I have encountered in my life.

Now prices have gone up on bread again, 2nd price increase this month, which is a little disappointing, but it’s not a major increase. I’m talking 10, 20 cent markup. Like I said, nothing too serious.

At least that’s what I thought.

How wrong I was.

Several customers came in for the day, ordering there usual loaves of bread, aware of the price increase, but no one said one word.

As the day went on, a well known customer pulled in the bakery with her new BMW.

She walks in and orders her usual and notices the price increase, making it aware by complaining.

Mind you this customer owns a home with a tennis court, has the latest car and dressed in smart clothes and she is complaining.

My God, this woman would easily pass of as a millionaire and she is complaining about 20 cents!

BAH! you ungrateful pig! There are dozens of people starving in the world and are very grateful for what little they have and here this lady is, a lady who has it all, house, car, clothes, food when she wants, etc, yet she complains about 20 cents.

I’ll tell you these people are bloody tight asses, but I guess it’s how they became rich in the first place.

So, rich people aren’t allowed to watch their money or be price conscious? How ridiculous.

Maybe she’s just up to her eyeballs in debt from buying all that stuff on credit XD

this is probably why she is wealthy.

whingers are whingers - no matter how they’re dressed!
I met a builder today who said that they are building heaps of mcmansions - mostly with upwards of 100 downlights - talk about global warming!! What they should do is make all these mcmansions completely carbon neutral no matter what they have to pay - if they can afford a wall-sized power-guzzling tv and a climate-controlled wine cellar they should have to fork out for the latest in solar panels, etc. so that the world doesn’t have to suffer for it.
no - you’re right solomon grundy - she’s probably budgeting for a few more world vision sponsorships ;)

I enjoyed your post Gadfly………very humourous. In my opinion, some people dont know how to make friendly chat, and have a habit of whinging, be it the weather or price rises.

I take it solomongrundy is one of those people.

If it makes you feel any better, i’ll even compensate you the 20 cents haha

Could you really expect more from a slave of materialism? She’s obviously got no balance in her life, hence all the shiny new things to make up for a lack of actual personality, skills (social and otherwise) and character defining experiences. Try saying nothing and see how that loveless ego reacts, maybe if you’re lucky her head will explode from the indignation of not being 20c as rich now as she was in the past. ;)

Could you people get any more righteous?

So I’ve got it straight, if you’re rich (apparently some sort of crime) then you are not allowed to complain or query prices, but instead you must suffer in silence because you’ve had the cheek to work hard and use whatever talent you have to make money?

And Matty, not sure if you’re accusing me of being rich or a whinger. Assuming it’s the latter (I wish I was the former, alas) then can I point out that you’re not coming from a strong position given your are the one WHINGING in a post about another person’s behaviour.

well i’m not going to feel too embarrassed to be under that umbrella of righteousness, it’s not as if her complaints were of an altruistic nature towards ‘aussie battlers’ like herself who *also* have to pay extra for goods and services in this competitive free-market supply/demand economy (which incidentally she has bought into and organically participated in). Chances are she’s never been to a third world country that survives at barely subsistence standards and doesn’t know how lucky she is to be living in Ausmerica. I know what you’re saying solomongrundy, but some people are too often tip-toed around when all they really need is a slap of reality. However hard done by we might feel here, we sit amongst the best standards of living in the world.

bread is not hard to make yourself btw. I like turkish Ekmek personally, it only takes a half hour and costs around 15c a loaf. It’s not like the world is bereft of choice, so if one makes a choice to pay for convenience and give patron to a particular store, I don’t understand how that would give free licence to bitch at the counter staff if the price is disagreeable according to an arbitrarily and subjectively defined value of what the cost of the goods should be at that particular moment in time.

Then again, it might be all very simple and she was just having a bad day. But where’s the fun argument in that? :p

    I just want attention ;)

Yeah, usually when you find someone bitching in a store its got nothing to do with the 20c or whatever it is, and everything to do with the crap day they are having.
And everyone has those! Isn’t that why road rage happens too? People are just so stressed out these days.

Come on now - strong humanitarian ideals and charity work take time and money. you need shiny new cars to get to those functions, and beautiful clothes to attract others’ money for good works. And if you have to fork out an extra 20c for each loaf of bread it may drastically reduce the number of cucumber and asparagus sandwiches you need to butter up those altruistic friends!! :)

Disclaimer: I am a non-discriminatory discounter myself - when I worked at the pharmacy I handed out discounts for everything from Joy parfum & Lancome make-up to fit packs and tissues!!! You nearly always get back a smile and they’re free for everyone :) :) :) :) :) SEE

Talk about it, just today I was walking from Bunnings and I hear a horn. I looked over to my surprise and some guy got out his car, kicked the other guys car and drive off.

The other guy was like “yeah, you so and so” and drove off.

Just surprised at our society today.

I chuckled as I read the original post and comments, thinking only yesterday about the $1.98 loaf of white sliced bread so preferred by my husband. For myself I whipped around to the deli and bought myself a loaf of Ukrainian Rye for nearly $4.50. I got what I liked, even as a pensioner and my husband got what he liked because it was his choice. We can only spend the dollar once but how we do it, is up to us!

My observation of very rich people make me rather glad I don’t have their concerns about the value of the dollar. They have all that worry that people only like them because of their wealth and position (one comes with the other usually).

Matty I trust the angry guy hurt his ankle by kicking the car. Guess which one gives!
